10 Vintage Rug Care Tips for Your Beach House

1. Regular Vacuuming:  Gently vacuum your vintage rugs at least once a week to remove sand, dirt, and debris that can accumulate from beach activities.

2. Rotate Periodically: To ensure even wear, rotate your rugs every few months, especially in high-traffic areas like entryways and living rooms.

3. Spot Cleaning: Immediately attend to spills using a clean cloth or paper towel to blot the liquid. Avoid rubbing to prevent spreading the stain.

4. Use Gentle Cleaning Solutions: When needed, clean your vintage rugs with mild detergent diluted in water. Test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area first.

5. Avoid Direct Sunlight: Protect your rugs from direct sunlight to prevent fading and damage to the fibers over time. Use curtains or blinds if necessary. If this is not possible, embrace the gentle fade and patina that comes along with the sunning process.

6. Professional Cleaning: Consider professional cleaning every 1-2 years, depending on usage and soiling. Choose a cleaner experienced with delicate vintage textiles.

7. Pad Underneath: Use rug pads underneath your vintage rugs to prevent slipping and to provide extra cushioning, which helps in preserving the rug's fibers. We love and recommend this rug pad.

8. Air Out Periodically: If possible, hang your rugs outdoors on a sunny, dry day to air them out and prevent musty odors. The deck or driveway work well. After a few hours, flip to the other side.

9. Store Properly (if applicable): If you have seasonal rugs, store them properly in a cool, dry place rolledNOT folded, to prevent creases and maintain their shape.

10. Inspect Regularly: Check your rugs regularly for any signs of wear, moth damage, or loose threads, and address any issues promptly to prevent further damage.

Vintage rugs can add character and warmth to your beach house decor, and with proper care, they can last for generations to come. By following these tips, you'll ensure your rugs stay beautiful and functional amidst the sand and sea breezes.
