Curator Notes: Antique Soumak rugs are flatwoven textiles defined by an intricate weft-wrapping technique that creates a subtly raised, corded surface with an almost embroidered feel. Originating from the Caucasus and Northwest Persia, they are prized for crisp geometric motifs and finely detailed pattern work. With no pile, they offer a lighter, more tailored feel underfoot while remaining highly durable. This piece is colored with natural vegetable dyes, pomegranate for warm tones and indigo for deep blues, giving the palette a richness that continues to soften with age.
